Review of Dorohedoro
NOTE: Dorohedoro a series best to go in blind. I Believe the author intends you to know as little as possible. It's an 8/10 series. This is a spoiler free review Dorohedoro is a series set in the dystopian world where 2 worlds actually exist. A world where people without magic and a dimension portal that exists to the world of Magic. Its pretty damn confusing. It starts off our MC (Caiman) Trying to eat someone's head and his trusty partner beating the shit of the eaten man's partner. Sorcery is released due to the tip of the fingers so generally when the FMC and MMCfight they try to disable there fingers. The reason the MMC is putting sorcers inside his head is because someone lives inside of him. And since he has amnesia he is just as much in the dark as we are, but since he has put 1 too many sorcerers inside his head the top dog magician En decides to hunt him down
Dorohedoro Setting is a Dystopian world but at the same time its not? Like the buildings are worn down. Everyone is wearing masks and has tattoos. But at the same time the food quality is better than what i eat? Its honestly kind of a minor issue but food is a pretty big part of the story being the butt of many jokes as well as the reason for plot points to go forward. So im really confused why food is the only thing that really made it out btw this is in the Hole where the non sorcerers live. The place where Sorcerers live is a bit different. It has a more different society. With a high class magicians and low class magicians. The high class feels more real and modern while low class magicians are like living in slums and stuff. Due to the nature of this world the series its a dog eat dog world. So everyone kills each other. There is no police here However, people for some unknown reason are generally nice to each other? I think its cuz of the animosity between the sorcerers and Non sorcerers. Either way its a bit odd. I also think the other anime doesn't really take full advantage of the world. I feel like the author could've spend more time exploring this fucked up world.
Dorohedoro Action as compared to the manga the action in the anime is much better. Its significantly more fluid and easier to follow as well as having more ompf to it. The manga geniunly is missing this in earlier volumes. I also really enjoyed the brutal violence in this series. It is slightly censored in the anime but thats really the confusing part. Considering that they show pretty gruesome scenes like certain parts are off limits? Kind of an odd thing to do. Regardless the series packs quite the wallop.
Dorohedoro Characters This is easily the most important aspect of the series. Due to how much little we know of the story the series is held up by its amazing characters. Caiman and En really carry this series. En especially is by far one of the most entertaining characters i have seen in an antagonist in a long time. Alot of villains are simply there to boost the MC's personality but En actually develops his own character, and the author does this with 1 easy tips that managa author's hate. The author made En nice. The dude is kind and i don't mean the type thats only nice to his pet and tortures his subordinates. He legitimately is nice to his underlings and treats more like equals and less like slaves, and this simple thing gives him so much personality its ridiculous. Watching him talk and interact are one of the best parts of the series. His subordinates are also nice in a non stupid way. Especially like the heroines in the series all have such character and entertainment amongst them. Caiman the MMC is unique, he has the shonen esque personality but when he says he's gonna kill you over food he actually fucking will. Murder comes easily to many of these characters which brings me back to the point in this lawless world where murder is the answer for a lot of questions, why are people so nice? Like this is a big issue? Caiman also has loads of comedic moments. Something i will get to but they were generally fun. The FMC on the other hand was a bit of a problem. The Sakura kind. I don't understand why she is constantly rescued and needs rescuing by Caiman. She has shown to be very formidable yet also very weak? Its an odd thing but then again this series is odd. I also find there relationship too common(?). More than friends less than lovers kind of thing. Its a pretty cliche relationship but i feel like the author could've developed this more and made it more clear.
Dorohedoro Comedy was.... ok. It was funny but at the same time feels uncessary. It was made me laugh but ruined the serious moments at times. Sometimes it was a miss entirely, like the bully sandwich. Other times it added some much needed levity like caiman waifu edition.
Dorohedoro Other stuff lots of random shit that just happened to move the plot forward. "We need to find this guy but we need a ticket?" Random fight scene."Oh look a ticket" literally appeared from the sky
Dorohedoro TLDR Its weird but its good shit. Characters are awesome and thorougly entertaining. action is nice, Setting is unique and odd. 8/10
