Review of Ya Boy Kongming!
The titular Kongming is a wartime strategist for his lord in ancient China, but then he dies and reappears (presumably in his 30's, though that's unclear) in modern-day Japan after wishing to be reborn in a time without conflict. He runs into Eiko, a young woman who is aspiring to be a famous singer, and decides that he will become her strategist to ensure that she becomes the singer that the world desperately needs. This is a series I thoroughly enjoyed with solid animation and a set of incredible songs, this series elevates itself through its titular character. Dude's a joy to watch every time he'son screen, whether he's being serious or bringing some levity. And yes, the OP is a bop. I like all of the main cast, actually. What holds it back is a real feeling of tension. Kongming is such an exceptional tactician that nothing ever seems to phase him, he's always one step ahead. The characters are struggling, clearly, but as the audience, it's hard to feel that there's any likelihood that they will fail. I'm hopeful that future seasons will introduce opponents who can stand against him, but as an introductory season, this was quite the master stroke.
