The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent: The Other Saint · review
Compared to the main story, [The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent: The Other Saint] or *Seijo no Maryoku wa Bannou desu: Mou Hitori no Seijo* feels very much being set up for failure. Because the story features Aira's side of the story, that means rehashing earlier plot beats from the main series. That means retelling something that has been told before, not too little because then the story won't stand on its own, but also not too much because then it becomes repetitive. And most importantly, in those scenes, Aira is not the protagonist. Sei is. Both the camera and the narration shifts to focus onSei, leaving Aira a bystander in her own story.
And yes, the story suffers because of these reasons. The plotting is very rushed, very much wall of text, with a significantly less flow AND breathing area AND self-reflection compared to the main story. The art is much stiffer than the main series too, with plenty of time skips and quick montages that doesn't give the story room to settle. Portraying Aira's life this way sure makes for an interesting contrast with Sei, but there is still much room for improvement.
Even so, despite all the criticism, I still think this is a worthy read if you enjoy the main series. The spin-off may be basic but it's still capable of standing by its own two feet. Aira's journey may be not as engaging as Sei, but her struggle to find her standing in this fantasy world still feels heartfelt and sincere. Old characters are shown in new interactions, and even Sei herself gets a small bit of nuance by letting the readers see how she is presented from an outsider's perspective.
