By 200 chapters in, the author has created a masterpiece that is powered by an impressive range of golf knowledge (and comedy). The first 50 chapters are standard sports shonen: a delinquent thinks he can golf, works at it despite the difficulty of the sport, and then ultimately…(no spoilers here don’t worry). 50-100 is where the story begins to become impressive. The main character, in order to fuel his growth, does unorthodox things to work on his game. But, it grips you because everything the author does is accurate to the sport, and fits perfectly to what the main character needs in order to become a completeplayer.

As someone who knows golf, it was amazing to see long drive contests and the art of caddying. And, what makes this series special is that the complex game of golf is exposed to people with no knowledge of the sport in a way that makes sense, and boosts the desire to root for the main character as the author explains a foreign concept that makes non-golfers see the difficulty involved.

Chapters 100-201 (current chapter at the time of this review) make this story a true 10/10 manga. The author makes professional golf feel real, from describing the different types of grass and play styles needed, how the density of the air affects flight, and how pre shot routines affect both your mental stimulation and your body position due to how relaxed your muscles are they are and what position they're in. All boring stuff out of context, but within this sports manga, it grips you as you experience the trials and tribulations of a prodigy learning the game.

Every other golf series has failed due to the sport being too complex to explain, yet too unbelievable when simplified. Too much scientific jargon and you want to stop reading. And vice versa, Too much shonen nonsense where people just smack the ball and never fail is just a snooze fest. Even a child could pick up that something doesn’t seem right with the presentation of golf.

King golf makes golf feel real while also being hilarious. There's even a true shonen story that get stronger as the series goes on. I’ve never seen anything like it.
