"Sora yori mo Tooi Basho" is a show on a topic that most viewers, including myself, would have no expertise on. After all, how many people do you know have been to Antarctica before? Perhaps it is the unfamiliarity of the topic that I was so intrigued by this show. "Sora yori" starts off as any other "school life" anime. Eventually, more characters are placed into the equation until eventually, the team is traveling to "a place further than the universe": Antarctica. The story is simple. Nothing too dramatic. But the characters make up for it. Every single character is different from one another. They allhave their own unique traits, but they are bound by one thing: their desire to go to Antarctica. Each one of them starts off with a "sob story," but throughout their journeys, they all grow stronger than ever before, even the characters that you may have forgotten.

There are several recurring themes in this show: friendship, acceptance, and development. They are always "moving forward," as stated in the show. Personally, I was on the verge of tears in every single episode. No, this was not a sad show, but it was beautiful and empowering. It was definitely beautiful: the portrayed Antarctica. As Takako has said, "It is so very beautiful."
