A fatherless kid watched his mother die in flames. He decided to become a hero and save other people from grief that brings cataclysmic human combustion into fire-fiends (and those guys seems to have high calorific value). Though premise is grim and there is a lot of death, when leaders of SFF divisions start talking about their motivation they look like 7y.o. kids. Those SFF divisions seems to be the most powerful players on political stage, as there is shown no overseer over them and they have what looks like the most firepower in what was left of Japan. And yet there is something that stillkeeps them cooperating at least on the level of not starting a war.

Story take place in apocalyptic world with technology level of 1940-1960 with a mix of current tech. It looks like what is left of Japan degraded into feudalism (or something equivalent to what they had there, when they had clan system). Turf is split up between SFF divisions which where originally military, church, firefighters, private corporations and other influential structures that could maintain order and control. There was not shown any governmental body that have control over them or have an arbiter role to guide inter-division conflict in peaceful manner. Later in there is shown Emperor which further draws parallels with Japan history, and it seems that he is also function as decorative figurehead as his prototype did most of the time.

Plot is very simple and can be summed up as MC go around and ask people (after/before fight) about his tragedy or nature of whole fire-thing. He does not have much impact on anything excluding fights. After some conflict between divisions, a sect gradually comes up in story and keep things interesting. It seems the more into the story you go, the more gibberish magic-like pseudoscience answers you get.

Overall story is average, but we got nice fights with good animation and, thanks to neko-girl and nun, nice fanservice from time to time.
