Review of Gangsta.
And that's why they call me "GANGSTA"! STORY (5): Gangsta is based on a manga by Kohske and produced by Manglobe. Gangsta takes place in Ergastulum, a town where prostitutes, gang activities, mafia and dirty cops roam about. We follow those two protagonists known as Worick & Nicolas who has a duty to prevent crime from being committed into the city. Gangsta the anime did show backstories on the two main characters and why they behave the way they did. I thought that was handled well. I also did like the way how the place Ergastulum is like a low-level society which also highlights the struggles that peopleface when they are in a town where crime rate is high and that there are prostitutes all around.
However, the later part of the series became dull and uninteresting as some characters are just there with no flavour to them especially Alex Benedetto.
The ending of the show just left me with more "WTF moments" like what happened to the rest of the cast. Maybe they don't have enough budget to work on the final episode.
ART (6):
The animation was decent. At least there is some movement between the characters.
SOUND (7):
The opening theme is addictive especially the relaxing music especially Alex's song in episode 8, I thought it was relaxing. Noto Mamiko voice was beautiful when she sang, reminded me of Asami Imai when she sings.
CHARACTER (5):
Worick is like the male version of Revy from Black Lagoon. With his badass attitude and his confident look, he really is by far my favourite character in this show.
Nicolas talks with his sign language was all right. I also did like his backstory on why he behave the way he did.
Alex Benedetto was very useless as a character. She is just a damsel in distress. She barely contributed anything.
I guess the rest of the characters are bland and forgettable. None of them stood out in my opinion.
CONCLUSION (5):
I didn't enjoy this anime although I did enjoy few parts like why low-level society isn't a total washout society. Especially the backstory of the main characters.
I just wish they could end on a nice note rather than an anti-climactic ending with no resolution to the characters. It was just wasted potential. For that reason I give Gangsta a 5 out of 10.
