Review of Noragami Aragoto
While many people will tell you that season 2 of noragami is WAYY better than season 1, I do agree but only to a certain extent. In fact, from the way I see it, both of them aren't really "seasons" per say, but just 2-3 arcs fit into a set of episodes, so when watching noragami, the highlight for me wasn't at the end of the season, but always somewhere in the middle. I'm not saying the ending is bad, but the climax really hit home in the middle that the ending in comparison is lacklustre. But why am I still giving it a 9you ask? Because I'm giving it a benefit of doubt that this show is an ongoing long ride and is far from ending. (season 3 please come out soon!!!)
I shall assume that anyone reading review would have watched the first season, or at least have some background context about the series. Noragami appears on the surface as a fun shounen series about an unknown and broke god Yato trying to spread his name and increase his popularity among the humans. And at the beginning we brush this goal, along with his wish to get a shrine, off as another one of his silly antics, but slowly as we progress further, mysteries begin to unravel and we get glimpses of his past and we begin to understand better. Character development in noragami is absolutely top notch, and Bishamon gets the most of it in this season, along with her regalia Kazuma, and the portrayal of her dilemmas, her pain, her mistakes, her regrets, they are all done incredibly beautifully.
The fight scenes in Noragami are absolute GEMS because yea its Bones we're talking about here, and there are significantly more action in aragoto than the first season so let us rejoice! My last complain would be once again Hiyori's lack of development, but I did hear that at the part where the season ends, the next arc that picks up at the manga is focused on Hiyori so I am looking forward to that!
Lastly, one thing I really love about this show is that it forces you to think deeper and question everything at surface value. It begs the question of what exactly is good and evil? It discusses the sins we humans commit, our selfishness and our greed, and the fatal consequences it may bring should we not keep it in check. But all these may just be me overthinking the anime xD But I assure you the chemistry between Yato and the rest of the gang is a joy to watch and Noragami Aragoto is definitely worth your time!
