Review of Tsukigakirei
Looking for an actual, complete, and satisfying romance anime? Well, do I have the thing for you! Seriously, though, this anime is so touching and real. I think it'd be a good anime to watch for anyone looking for something in this genre. The few bad things I have to say about this anime all pretty much revolve around the art style. I'm not that big a fan of the CGI type character designs, although this anime isn't as CGI-esque as shows like God Eater. Also, all the objects and characters in this anime had a stark, white highlight around the edges of them, soI wasn't that big a fan of it to begin with. Obviously, I got used to it, but it was ever so slightly off-putting in the beginning. There were some beautiful scenic shots, though.
That's enough of the bad. The best thing about this anime is how true to real life it is. It represents first relationships perfectly, so I'm sure this anime will either be relatable or nostalgic for people, depending on their age range. Everything you see is so, so accurate. From worrying over little fights to freaking out over vague text messages to stressing about your own insecurities in the relationship; it's all there. I think it's a really good representation of young love and how it plays out for two people that are very dedicated to each other.
I also appreciate that this is a romance anime that focuses on the relationship as it's happening rather than spending most of the episodes setting groundwork for the pair to get together in the final scene. Like I said, it's nice to see how an early relationship progresses. Also, although this anime is about middle school kids, it doesn't at all make them feel immature. I think it's an important choice that was made to have the characters know what they wanted out of their relationship despite not having all the answers. Watching ignorant kids say nonsensical things about love would've been quite annoying to watch, so I'm glad that trap was avoided.
If you're looking for something that'll make you feel good, smile a lot, and get the warm fuzzies, definitely watch this anime. It brought back so many memories for me that I could look bad on fondly through this anime, so I'd invite all of you to do the same.
