Review of Astra Lost in Space
I really don't understand the hype surrounding this anime. It's average at best. And God knows I love space in all its forms. But here, it all rings hollow. The characters are caricatures, the plot is flimsy, the mysteries and twists are predictable. The animation neither moved nor transcended me. A cosmic disappointment. They've missed out on what could have been a great anime. The story had potential and the playground offered by space exploration and stellar survival is infinite. Unfortunately, it doesn't take long before you're faced with an unpalatable dish. The story bites its own tail, we go round in circles, the assassin is burntout a mile away from the very first two episodes, and the sub-plots are rubbish. The animation left me cold. Yet for the first few seconds of the first episode, I thought I could believe it.
When she swirls around in the stellar immensity, with no communication and her thrusters flat, I thought to myself: ‘ah finally, an anime that starts well and is better than Gravity’.
What a joke. No other scene comes close to matching the intro, you get the impression that after a few minutes they've run out of resources and inspiration.
In short, I'm disappointed.
