Review of BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense.
The idea of people playing MMOs can be great, and the idea of a VR world you can escape from is great, and tune in tune out. As someone reviewed this being from someone who played such MMO's it makes me wonder even more how bad such games were after 40 years of gaming rough since the old atari systems and zx81s. We see a story seemingly designed for girls from the OP girl MC and sidekicks, a clueless way of how skills work, and how they can not just be adapted to anything like they are in this anime or ow spoilersites and wiki's make some skills/items so surprising when they appear when in reality all people jump on them normally after the initial finders boost themselves and their teams,
They also seem confused on how the VR world works, as the game regularly shows full emersion like Sword art online, but claims it only to be VR, meaning you won't get tired the way they do, have the mobility, etc, the knockbacks the same way, or even be using your face and body generally. So 5 days of Vr world, is never going to be 2 hours of VR time, same way 7 days of VR is not gonna be 4 hours as this prescribes, the maths don't work out either.
The only thing they did get right to me is how some people grind but even they aren't unbeatable and can be worn down, skills limited on use, and different players would assign stats different when they can, but not generally in the way this game allows. However for all the other mistakes, I honestly only kept watching to see what happens at the end so could review. The reality being the way these people assigned stats, they would honestly struggle is the reality even as a team with no defence, or no attack, etc, a would do not damage, or not be able to take any.
So if you're looking for a poorly created wannabe isekai with cute girls as that's your thing you will love it, if you're looking for something in SAO season 1 or Log Horizon style of story, you're not going to find it. Interesting idea, poorly executed.
