Given the choice between a manga and a light novel, I always go for the manga. But for whatever reason, I decided to pick up this book. And I'm so glad I did because this was such a refreshing experience. I thought this would be just another romance with fantastical elements. And it is, but a lot of the stories I've read/seen feel kinda shallow in comparison. (I know that says more about me than this book, but bare with me.) At first, the characters didn't seem to be all that deep, especially Anzu. But with each venture into the tunnel, they learned more about eachother and became closer. I found the writing style surprisingly entertaining and immersive. By the third chapter, I was surprised by the turn the story took. By the fourth chapter, I wanted to give Kaoru a hug. By the fifth chapter I was in tears. I would have liked a more bitter-sweet ending, but oh well.

I wouldn't say this book is a masterpiece, but it didn't just keep me entertained. It made me think and it moved me, so it was absolutely worth my time.
