Nigate na Koibito · review
For the main story, it's pretty good. The general conceit of this story is "being swept away when I don't even like it that much", and the contrasting dynamics between the black cat uke and the himbo golden retriever seme is also very cookie cutter by now. With both of that in mind, it's VERY easy for this story to become overbearing and repetitive, for it to hide in same old cliches. But to me, this story manages to avoid the pitfall. While the pacing is rushed, particularly the ending, the story is surprisingly grounded in both the main conflict and the general outlook. The himboseme also manages to defy certain cliches in this genre, and I appreciate the creative move.
I do wish the story can adopt a slower pace, can explore things deeper. I particularly hoped the story can take time disarming the uke's (very real, very insidious) trauma. But as it is, the story is already a pretty enjoyable read.
The second story starts of mostly nice....until the outdated and completely unnecessary noncon. Then I remember that Ueda Kiyo is an old mangaka. And I sigh.
