Review of Monster
This show is a lengthy psychological thriller, with an excellent story and attention to character writing. First off, I hope people understand 5/10 means it's average and there are plenty of shows that are similar in value. Bell curve mean anything? Story: The story of Monster is excellent because you will not be able to predict the plot and trying to do so will get you sucked in more. There are plenty of political, psychological and philosophical themes in the show that make this a great watch for any educated adult. You will not enjoy this show without having a pre-existing knowledge of these subjects. Itwill likely bore you since you only understand the face value of actions and dialogue.
Art: Nothing special for its time. Madhouse did do an excellent job of staying true to the source material and trying their best to differentiate the different cultures represented.
Sound: Again sound played a minimal role in the show but the ambience is fitting. I did not have any issues with their choices but nothing stood out in particular.
Character: The reason this show is so long is because of the sheer amount of characters introduced and the detail gone into writing life into them. They have their own philosophies, values and memories that shaped them. The struggle is excellently portrayed.
Enjoyment: I watched this in English dub thinking I would have it on my second screen and give half attention. I ended up simply watching the whole thing with my full attention and binging it. The show explores many adult themes that are not represented often in common anime. This made it enjoyable for me, that I was watching an anime truly intended for an adult audience.
Overall: Fantastic show but not for everyone. If you wrote 6+ paragraphs and admit the story was fantastic, I think it deserves more than a 5/10. Again, look up a bell curve.
