"Blue Period" had several flaws in the development of some characters and some episodes swayed along the boundary of being boring, but the art, character development of the protagonist, and touching commentary are what kept me watching. Yatora Yaguchi the series lead, is very likable and comes a long way throughout the series on his journey of self-discovery and self-confidence. This anime highlights the importance of believing in oneself and finding the courage to follow your dreams even during difficult situations. "Blue Period" does a pretty good job in discussing some LGBT themes in a grounded, compassionate way that is relatable to most viewersand also implies the plight that people in this community face. Overall, the excitement and drama that comes from the main exam story arc really holds this show together and keeps the viewer entertained even during slower portions of this anime. The art in this anime is also exquisite and the colors used really help the art pieces that are presented pop.
