Review of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District Arc
This review its gonna result me difficult to do not just becuase of the quailty itsleft but because of the most easy-fix problems that were appearing (under my opinion) along the series, and were overall really annoying and frustraiting compared with how well artistically, musically as well as so crazyly good were certain moments depicted in the series for being a shonen. *IT CAN CONTAIN SOME SPOILERS* Now i want to firts let the good points and after that the bad point what i could notice or at least what bothered me. The animation its needles to say freaking good not many times you have the opportunity toexperience an anime with that amount of quality (althought i found a couple of moments where its felts a little streached moments like static images, but overall nothinng in this aspect to actually critize). The sound also play a HUGE part in the anime i mean without it many fightings moments or sad ones wouldnt have the same impact (im talking about the ost , leaving aside the op and end which under my perspective i really liked it , althought some might dissagree that didnt fit the overall theme of the series i think where really nice).
Those above mentioned aspects are some of the most really strong points of the series, yes its an shonen and are gonna be a good amount of things recycled of another series relationated with this ambit, now the story itselft its also nothing really special or unique and i think we have seen these themes touched in another series in one or another way, im saying this because of how many critizized for example the protanist to being such an altruist (althought from the season 1 we can realize the kind of personality that each characters have , giving us an good idea of their overall persona) which actually we have seeing this kind of archetype many times of the cclasic protagonist who puts the welfare of others before their own.
The story its executed very well to being honest and that together with such outstanding animation and music its an potential recipe to success, sure this season i feel has more flaws than the previous ones (which i gonna to mention below) but in general there wasnt anything that were contradictory or bad executed, to those with experience having watched other shonens it might not be the best anime in the history (although i can undertand that amount of love that could recive from someone who didnt have so much experience watching another animes of this type, so they wouldnt have another point of references to compare with, althought at the end of the day its more an matter of taste).
Well then let me start with the bad ones , firts the most trivial ones that even dont play a huge role in the series and doesnt affect the story overall but could be nice to have some kind of explanation of the why or how.
Well the firts its how tanjiro, inosuke and zenitsu infilter into the house of the red district making pass like womans, and in this aspect i dont undertand how the owners of the local itselft didnt realize that they were actually boys , and i mean this because after they are accepted there are scenes like with inosuke that they are make change up their clothes by the servants iutselft and its makes me impossible to believe that wouldnt discover it, the same goes to the others. Sure i mean i can accept it and let it pass (because its not so important) but it could be nice some explanation or at least dont put them in those situation where its more than obvious that are gonnan be discovered.
Well i dont know if put it how a bad point or basiccly dont say anyhting about it, firts than anyhting i actually enjoyed those comics moments which i also experienced in the firts season , but in this one i felt that there were a little too much which make certain moments lose weight of seriousness, i mean sure the characters like zenitsu and inosuke even in the season1 contributed some funny moments ( and i undertand that they are used sometimes to lighten up the ambience) but in this season it might be a little to much. I dont agree with those who say that they are just comic-relief , i feel they were taken seriously in the season 1 and in this one also, but didnt portrayed them so well as the previous one and also hadnt have enought screen time to actually participate in more serious moments beside the funny ones , althought close to the end of the series we could see the other faced of them a little bit which at least i feel balanceted the things a little bit more, but doesnt excuse the fact that should have gave them more relevance in this season being importants characters like tanjiro ( or at least to me zenitsu for example its my favorite character ).
Well monologues, monologues ,monoogues... there were more than just a couple around the six episode (or even before) until almost the end of the series , those ones itselft are not bad if they are used in the right moments but it wasnt the case in this one, around the aparition of the *real* enemy there were more than enought monologues which actually decreased (at least in my opinion) the hype and climax that was building up (sure not much later, the series recover that kind of emotion and epicity) but i dont remember well which episode in specific was, but more than half of it it felt really prolonged (it felt like dragon ball z, or the arc of hunter x hunter chimera ants, which if you ask me its really bad) in such way that was just an bunch of monologues in one of the worst moments, i mean it was supposedly to being a moment were no more than a few dialogs would take place and actually start to actually explode with all the fights in such tense moment.
The other thing someone explain me how da fuck our protanist tanjirou its able to actually getting up and keep fighting after the 7 episode i mean i can forgive some things but this one its one of the most irritaiting things that i have to endure in the series (its doesnt make sense), sure we all have seen our cclasic protagonist going beyond his limits and surpasing all obstacules but in this case my guy was throwed around all the distric bassicly and was injured in so many ways and even then he managed to continue facing the enemy. In this case it was unreasonable, to being honest and reached a point were i couldnt believe how was even alive, there wasnt anything that could prevent him to being death after all that, and didnt like even being an shonen it could have an certain degree of credibility in this aspect, i can undertand its our protagonist but even then it should be an limit to everything , that itseflt make in my opinion decrease the exitement and epicness of the fight in many times, i mean our pillar was so much credibly being injured and actually reacting acording to those events( i undertand that he doesnt have so much relevance like other characters but even then its was treated so much better than tajirou).
I could felt emphaty for the enemy and i liked it very much, but i dont know who taked the decision to actually show their previous life before becaming demons AFTER all the fighting and dying, it was the most unsenseless decision ihat i have seen in a long time , if you want to someone sympathize with an character the proper thing to do (like almost all the animes do) its show his past in the most climatic moments so you can feel an deepher conextion wiht him (or them in this case), that itselft take out so much weight of how you could end up loving them and feel more attached. Wasnt my case but i know it could end up being so much better (to many people symphatize with the characters better) if they actually put that scene instead of being the epidosde 11 around the 8 or 9 for example.
And i think the last thing, was again something about our protaginst , we have seen it many times were actually in the most dangerous and deadly situation were the life of our protagonist is at stake he its able to wake up some crazy ability/transformation that allows him to change all kind of adversity, i just didnt like (it might be because of having seeing it so many times in other series) but its so cliche and coincident and doesnt hold up pair with the crazy animation and intense moments and epic music , i mean it can be due to the fact that in the manga its the same but it could be done some much better without exploiting those kind of cliches that we seen so much in shonen, and actually reach the same kind of quality that the series presents in the other aspects.
RESUME
If you want to experience an shonen series with movie production values that hardly you could find in another series and some really epics moments as well as also accept the fact that freckle in some really trivials and dumbs aspects and other more serious that the previous one didnt have, this series overall its pretty enjoyable and sure the story could be in this arc being narrated better to reach the same quality of the other aspects, but even then its hold up very well and i think the experience if you forgive the bad points could end up being an really pleasure anime, at least what the series its traying to aim it did an general good job and its above average. If it wouldnt make those mistakes at least the most serious ones, i could gave it easily an 9 but yeah when its comes to narration and development it was where most flaw where present ( even thought its not the forte of shonen animes hehe)
