Review of Tokyo Revengers

This experience was a doozy to say the least. I originally wasn't going to write a review for this one because I had assumed all the others would have already said what I was thinking but to my surprise, it's pretty balanced. I finished it within a 24 hour window and don't regret a thing. Although I do admit the pacing can be slower than a turtle at times but I can look past that since the conclusions are so rewarding. I don't think I have ever been this effected by an anime since To Your Eternity. I truly don't even know how tobegin summing up why I enjoyed this so much.

Story 10
- The premise takes a unique spin on something that has been done so many times before. The first few episodes were very uneventful and definitely not a strong start to such a memorable experience. Some could argue it spends too much time on world building and the conflicts which I agree with to an extent. I would much rather this than have them rush through everything where that would not work with the type of story it has built for itself. I do admit I am being a bit lean with this part, giving it a 10, but I genuinely believe it deserves it. When I think about the story of an anime, I'm thinking more about the plot, world building, character development, and the overall flow rather than pacing and individual imperfections. The boring moments really feel like a chore to get through but I feel it's only because when it's at its peak, anything else compared can feel underwhelming. The fact that the process of getting through every single arc is so tedious really pays off.

Art 7
- This is sorta what drew me in in the first place I suppose. I haven't really seen anything like it where the art style was so unique yet generic. The characters were done the same but very differently. There wasnt really much astonishing I can point out except for the fact that I was always excited to see new characters. The animation felt like a poorly done flip book at times. It wasn't as breathtaking as I feel it should have been. I would have been way more invested if the fight scenes and just normal things like running(they looked very unnatural) would have been animated with a bit more thought and not just good enough.

Sound 8
- The OP and both endings were amazing. The visuals of the second ending song were beautiful and more often than not would I watch it rather than immediately going to the next episode. The sound effects were crisp and realistic enough for me to believe in that moment that they didn't add in a punching sound effect. The background music was nice as well. It wasn't distracting and never left a scene feeling awkward and more tense than it should be.

Characters 10
- By far my favorite thing about this anime. The strong characters were OP and the weak ones knew they were weak. I felt strong feelings towards all of them, whether positive or not and I found myself paying more attention to a new characters introduction than any other scene. I wouldn't say they has super strong 'villains' character wise, but I definitely felt a hatred for them. I got attached to people I've only seen for 2 episodes and sympathized with those who I hated until then. All of the designs were so appealing and unique and I loved all of the outfits/ uniforms.

Overall 9
- There are obvious reasons I can not give this a 10/10 but is still a favorite in my book. I absolutely fell in love with characters like Mikey, Draken, and Chifuyu faster than I had expected. I 100% recommend this if you are looking for something action packed, gritty, and even a bit mysterious if you wanna stretch that far. I look forward to season 2 can definitely see myself re-watching it many times.

Conclusion/ extra
THIS BIT CONTAINS SPOILERS
I was way more upset than expected when Baji died and definitely felt a piece of my soul leave my body when a Chifuyu was killed at the end. I don't know what made me so attached seeing as though we pretty much only knew him for a couple episodes. The whole time travel thing kinda got confusing at times and the ending felt rushed. I do understand that it is not the end of the anime and the beginning of a new arc but in my opinion, I believe they could have spent more time with it and explained where everyone was and why we were there instead of shoving us into everything so quickly. In the end, this was definitely my ideal.

This is all coming from someone whom has not red the manga nor seen past where the anime ends as of the first season.
