Review of Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro
Alright, we get it.. this show is just a big repeat of all the tsundere shows out there. Yes, it's your typical run-of-the-mill school romance teasing type of anime.. so why is it so popular? First off, we gatta account for all the sadomasochists out there who simply got too turned on in the first episode because the little smug tanned loli straight up bullied her upperclassman to tears and literal nightmares. Then Nagatoro's smug faces.. this girl arguably has the smuggest faces of all time, and this is portrayed a little too well thanks to the great animators.. and the studio who apparently spent half theanime budget on her face completely abandoned the side characters faces.
Nagatoro is a tsuntsun yes but she's a little different from other tsuns, as she kinda trys to keep the teasing to bare minimum and doesn't fucking beat the protagonist to death when he touches her arm by accident or something.. she also kept most of the teasing between them, meaning that she's pretty considerate about how he feels, except she actually shows that in action.
The protagonist is shit, we can all agree.. but in my opinion he could've been worse honestly, he isn't too dense like that fucker from infinite stratos, he knows what's happening around him, he's just too beta cuck most of the time.. so he's on the passive side almost the whole show, whenever he makes a move he does it within his cuck limits, then the rest plays out.. overall his personality is not too void or generic, but not lovable or unique either.
Nagatoro is probably the selling point for this anime, her VA is too talented, the art style perfectly suits her, smug faces, wholesomeness, tan anime girl.. I can keep going, but you get the point.
The 'bullying' in the first episode is a turn off for sure, but for a hentai creator this surprisingly went in a wholesome direction, while Nagatoro is restless with her teasing.. her defense is almost zero, The protagonist on the other hand can tank most of her attacks and simultaneously have the ability to strike her whenever he wants.. this creates a cute dynamic between them that wouldn't work with a not-so-cuck protagonist.. so it kinda works out in the end.
I have a weak spot for school romance so I definitely enjoyed most of the generic tropes, I just wish they had more original jokes or "new" school moments.
P.S: The Twitter kids who cry whenever they see a slightly white nagatoro fanart can go fuck themselves, she isn't even naturally tan.
And the peeps who keep talking about bullying this and bullying that, chill.. it's just a fucking anime.
