Review of Chainsaw Man

CSM is one of my favorite manga and I had been waiting for the anime to come out for a while. Did it live up to the hype? Most definitely yes. First off, the animation is arguably the best I’ve ever seen. The lighting, movement and the CGI are FLAWLESS. MAPPA adapted it perfectly. I don’t know if this is an unpopular opinion, but I’ve never seen CGI this good in an anime. You can barely tell 2D and CGI apart (except for the first episode) and it’s also used so damn sparingly. The CGI was a controversial subject, but i think MAPPA made theright choice.

Seeing these characters fleshed out with voice acting and movement elevated this series to new heights. Especially Power’s and Himeno’s voice actors did amazingly.

When the VA’s were announced I didn’t know what to think about it, considering they’re not very experienced, but in the end, it was the best choice they could have made.

Another thing that stood out to me was the cinematography. Everything is drawn in such a realistic way, and the angles they use in the episodes are just stunning to look at. Fantastic job by the director.

The soundtrack by Kensuke Ushio is flawless and very memorable too. There may not have been many songs, but they were used perfectly. I will definitely be revisiting it.

On the topic of OST’s, I also really liked how every episode had a different ending song. My favorite ED’s are definitely DOGLAND and Fight Song, which is to be expected as I’m a massive Eve fan, but i genuinely cannot name a single ED I disliked. All of them fit with the episodes/characters and were very well animated too.

I’m looking forward to next season, as that will be where things REALLY start escalating.

The best episodes were, in my opinion, episode 7, 9 and 12. With my favorite character this season being Aki. He’s one of the best written deuteragonists in anime.

This is, without a doubt, a strong Anime Of The Year contender. The only flaw it has is that the first episode had questionable CGI, but I’m so damn glad they improved on that.

Final Rating: 9.5/10. The anime is elevating Chainsaw Man to new heights for me. I think I’ve watched every episode at least 7 times. I’m very hyped for next season.
