Review of Dan Da Dan
Epitome of jack-of-all-trades. An enjoyable ride with an unknown destination. Dandadan does a bit of everything - romance, comedy, action, fan service, character development and heartwarming backstories. Personally, the characters, and their qurkiness and humour are the main draw. Fight scenes are also pretty well sequenced and animated! Also love that the characters’ quirks and personality are pretty memorable, distinct and refreshing even if it may be based off anime troupes. While the series is easy to watch and mostly enjoyable, it lacks the feeling of i-can’t-wait-for-next-week’s-episode. The series lacks a convincing overarching objective (e.g. defeating X enemy, uncovering X mystery) and does not feel likea full blown slice of life or comedic series for plot to be as loose as it is.
To sum it all up, I find it difficult to brand Dandadan as a bad series but also struggle to recommend the series to anyone. At this point, I am cautiously optimistic for a game changing arc to tie all things together. Or maybe all we need is a decently mid-ing series on some days.
