Review of Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody
This is one of the most average anime I've seen in quite a while. Death March has some real identity issues. I have no idea what kind of anime it's trying to be, and I don't think the studio did either. Is it a fantasy adventure? A slice of life? A harem comedy? It attempts to be all of these things at once, and ends up failing at all of them for that very reason. The massive cast doesn't help. The girls are introduced so quickly that you barely get a chance to learn their names before the next one is tossed into the party. What couldhave been an interesting group of characters ends up being a boring haremesque mob of nobodies that follow the main character around because he's the main character.
The show does have plenty of fun ideas, but with only twelve episodes it never gets a chance to flesh any of them out. The series length is the single biggest thing holding it back from being a good show, but without a second season it will never be anything more than "acceptable."
