Came into this anime not knowing exactly what to expect. I didn't read the manga, but I'd heard a few good things about this anime. The gore aspect was really what lured me in, but I was actually surprised by the level of maturity this anime presented. I was a bit taken aback in the first few episodes, but I got used to it. Story: 7 Diving into the anime with no background on Devilman was a bit confusing. I struggled to understand what the hell was going on within the first few episodes. I caught on after a bitthough it was still unclear. I was bored after a few episodes, but I'm happy I finished this anime through. I feel like the story was only presented well right at the end when all of the tragedy takes place, but that is probably to be expected with only 10 episodes to work with. Overall, the story was pretty decent with a confusing-as-hell buildup.
Art: 9
The art is undoubtedly a bit different from the typical modern art styles that you see in many other animes, but it was something I could appreciate. Sure, there were some times where the visuals were a bit questionable, but I won't complain about the overall look of the anime. If anything, the art style contributes to how out there this anime was for me. As an artist, the art style here was pretty damn amazing.
Sound: 10
The sound was outstanding. Well, the sub, that is. I usually watch dubs (yeah yeah I know) but the dub here didn't sit right with me. After an episode, I switched to the sub and enjoyed it much more. Some may have complaints with the English dialogue in the sub, but for me, it made it even more authentic. You can't expect Japanese natives to have a perfect English accent. I think the story kinda called for the English amidst the global panic, though, sure, it wasn't necessary.
Characters: 6
This section is arguably the worst. Of course, this should probably be contributed to how short this anime is. You can't be expected to produce 10/10 solid character arcs over 10 twenty-minute episodes. Nevertheless, I didn't feel much of a connection to many of the characters. Sure, I felt a little something toward the end, but the buildup of the characters just seemed dull.
Enjoyment: 7
Despite its faults, Devilman was a fun, short anime to binge. I had fun doing it, though the ending was a little questionable.
Overall: 7
Not the greatest, not the worst. Still, you should give this anime a try.
