Review of ReLIFE

Relife is really cute. The main guy is well, a main guy. He’s down and out, but that’s because of problems in his first life where he tried to be a nice guy and it backfired on him. Still, he’s interesting enough, and watching his older life and his current one clash. Watching someone try to go back to high school. It’s nice to see acknowledgement that he’s older and thus will tackle certain situations differently. The main problem with this story is that he mostly doesn’t come across half the time as the main character. In fact, theperson with the most hang-ups is Rena. I really ended up not liking her. I kinda liked that she understood what her own problems were and that she was being an idiot, but watching her just fail because of her situations makes her a really annoying character to deal with.

Plus, there’s a few too many grownups in the story. That might sound weird, but if I go into more, I go into spoilers.

Now if this had the main character dealing with individual stories in some way that fleshed out the class more and didn’t make the series seem more like the “Rena problem of the day” thing, I think I would have liked it more. But overall it is a rather cute and harmless bit of fluff to watch. Though the whole “let’s deal with trauma by putting him in high school” seems really stupid.
