Review of ReLIFE
A very entertaining and at times moving romance, although not without its flaws. Relife does a pretty good job balancing out comedy, entertainment and the more serious moments. The humour is usually spot on, although there were some jokes which were dragged on too long during the first few episodes. The series also delves into more serious topics really well like social isolation and self esteem. Relife was usually well paced, especially towards the later episodes where it focused on specific characters and their challenges. The characters are all very likeable and relatable. Each character gets their moment in the spotlight, so we get to learn moreabout them and their insecurities. Arata, (a 27 year old who takes a pill to turn 10 years younger) for example at first seems to be a young adult struggling to find a job after he quit his previous one, but later on we learn more about his past and how it has continued to affect him now. Although some of the character’s development felt rushed as we learn nearly everything about them all at once without getting to know them prior to that episode.
The stories of the characters are presented really well. Most episodes focus on a specific character and their personal struggles, and how they cope with it. Whether it’s about a crush, or coming to terms with the past, the challenges the characters face makes them more relatable and makes us care about them even more.
Relife is a really good romance with lots of entertaining moments, although there are times the quality drops. Nevertheless Relife has some fantastic characters and stories to tell, and is well worth watching.
