Review of Devilman: Crybaby
When i saw that Netflix produced another anime i thought it would definitely turn out just like their previous works ( Neo Yokio for example) so i didn't really have high expectations. However, I have to admit, they really did make something special this time (in a good way). Story: The story was given by its older version and really isn't that important for the anime, it served more as an explanation for all the events happening. Nothing that wasn't crucial for the story itself got explained and there was almost no backstory given. Art/Sound: The art style is unique and it really takes some time to get intoit. The animations are not very detailed and are more focused on fast images and movements, which is exactly what the anime is going for. The character designs are very slender and more western than usual. Art and Sound go hand in hand in this anime; fast paced and gory scenes with rapid and aggressive music create a really dark reality. Art, Animation and Music are the real gems of this anime, conversation gets replaced with action whenever it makes sense.
Characters:
The anime does not really pay attention to any of its characters. There is not much information given about most characters and the only real character development one gets to witness is the change of heart of the Main character throughout the anime. Most of the side characters just serve for story development.
Enjoyment:
This is probably the most controversial part of the anime. All that matters here is taste. Devilman: Crybaby is full of sex, lust and gore and it really does nothing to hide that. Most of the shown emotions are completely over the top pairing with the animation and music. It fitted way too well to be criticizised in my eye.
Pure eyecandy.
