Review of Parasyte: The Maxim
Say, what do you think makes us different from other animals and beasts on our earth? Apparently in Parasyte, the answer is Altruism Altruism: the belief in or practice of disinterested and selfless concern for the well-being of others Well I think it's a lot more than that, like how we are the most intelligent beings on the earth, (Well, except for a select few) Anyway, to put this bluntly, Parasyte had a lot of potential at a first glance. Even though the concept of parasites that take over human beings isn't new, for the first impression, the show seemed to carry itself well, and it had a high hopeof being different, and standing out.
But unfortunately, the story was thrown in the trash, transported to a landfill, and incinerated and polluted the anime community. But that's just the story.
At first, the anime seems to know what it's doing, but then after a certain objective is completed, even the story doesn't know:
What next?
We literally have the MC just wander around his daily life fighting parasites as they come. Now i'm sure parasite is known for its grotesque awesomeness, and the fight scenes are done well, but it's just sad how the story fell apart and had a dumb ending.
Another thing about this anime is that it tries to mix in "slice-o-life-everything-is-alright-romance"
The show would probably be better off without it, it just wastes our time really. The romance between the MC and his gf is a joke. 85% of the time he sees her, he has to run away with no explanation, to fight some parasite, and just over all their relationship is poopy.
But speaking of characters, we have this mass array of allies and antagonists that BARELY get any development at all, pretty much only MC and his parasite friend. Which was fine but still, REALLY?
Anyway, time to talk about the good things.
Even with ALL those flaws, I still enjoyed this anime, why would you NOT want to see mutated beings fight to the death and see what the fate of humanity is?
Animation and art was good, as expected of Madhouse. Well, I liked the OP, but it had rock parts that were a little too intense for me, the ending, well, it might grow on you, might not, it all depends. The OST were very good too, I rarely notice OSTs that much, so when I do it's bonus points, but sometimes the OSTs were a little intense for the situation, but it's still fine.
Overall, it depends on you, if your not a critic like me, or at least don't "observe" it critically, you will probably enjoy this anime, just give it a chance 'k?
And if you haven't heard already, this anime has a LOT of gore. Just a heads up!
Thank you for reading my review!
