Dark, dreary, and often depressing, Attack on Titan conveys a one of a kind world with a unique tone and atmosphere within an otherwise washed out genre. Attack on Titan otherwise known as Shingeki no Kyoujin (Japanese Title) is a highly popular shounen anime but I’m sure most already know that. It’s effect has been huge reaching far beyond just Japan, it’s characters and world are largely recognized by many. Since the spring season of 2013 all the way to the present where we are eagerly awaiting its finale, Attack on Titan has been arguably one of the most influential anime of all time andone that is beloved by many. So I will start with why it’s not only one of my favorite anime but an incredible show on an objective level.

Every good action has to start with a good setting and Attack on Titan’s world is unique and immersive. With its core concept around the dangerous Titans who are mysterious and central to every single plot point within Attack on Titan’s complex story. Its writing is genius to a level which I can’t even begin to explain. Every single thing shown is important to the plot, every character, place, object, and every bit of foreshadowing is heavily important. It makes a plot set up that is threaded in a way where everything meets in the middle around its central idea of the Titans. With incredible plot twists and interesting development that will leave you wanting more, each episode of Attack on Titan regardless of how much action it holds, is very entertaining and will have you invested. You start to really care for its characters and they are written in a way where you can truly see their mental state and how it is affected. Being an often dark show it’s characters endure trials which leave them scarred and forever changed, it has a very real take on the effect of the grueling events within its violent story. It’s militaristic themes make for interesting character development and themes of camaraderie that quickly make you attached.

From a technical standpoint Attack on Titan has visually jaw dropping scenes with some of the best animation of the medium. Combined with its intense and epic music it makes for some of the greatest action scenes that will stick with you for a long time. The story will continue to surprise you as it did for me and I can firmly say that it will no turn out as you expect. These turns keep it fresh and exciting in even it’s most dull moments. In my personal opinion Attack on Titan’s story is bold. It’s not for everyone and I’m not going to tell you it’s a perfect story for everyone. But, It is written exactly how it was intended, and it deeply affected me and kept me more hooked than any story I have ever watched or consumed.

Not only do I think Attack on Titan is nothing short of a masterpiece but I think it’s writing, world, and characters are those that stick with you. Even with time I have never forgotten the characters and events in the story, the parts where I couldn’t help but stare in awe. It is without a doubt in my mind the best piece of cinema or animation I have ever watched. It is a true 10/10 and nothing short of perfect in my eyes. I cannot recommend Attack on Titan enough to anyone. I would’ve watched anime so much sooner if I knew that animation could have an effect like this, because this a rare case where the complex art form of animation is working at its highest in a form where nothing is truly like it. Attack on Titan is not only the greatest action ever conceived but one of the most influential animated series ever created.
