Review of BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense.
Itai no wa Iya nano de Bougyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu is a slice of life fantasy anime with cute girls do cute things mixed in. It's nothing special, and many other anime are worth your time over this one. That being said, Itai no wa Iya nano de Bougyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu is interesting using the concept of a Tank role in VRMMORPG being OP. For MMO players, this anime could be enjoyable, as Maple brings charm to the party and guild building system. If you liked Log Horizon, Itai no wa Iya nano de Bougyoryoku niKyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu may be up your alley.
Animation 8/10
- The action animation is pretty solid, with solid details, but a bit generic otherwise.
Sound 6/10
- There is an overuse of a single soundtrack that is recycled and reused throughout the whole anime, and it's noticeable.
Story 5/10
- There is no story, it's just a portrayal of a VRMMO, with what you would expect in such a game.
Characters 8/10
- Characters are enjoyable, with solid growth of Maple and Sally, which makes me excited to watch how they both grow in S2.
Enjoyment 7/10
- The anime can be a slog. It also can be pretty interesting. The best episodes are the last 3 or 4.
Overall, Itai no wa Iya nano de Bougyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu is mid. It is what it is. Fantasy anime watchers should get something from this series, but don't expect greatness. With all its' flaws Itai no wa Iya nano de Bougyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu will be worth watching to see how the VRMMO world tries to deal with Maple, Sally, and the growing influx of players maxing out single stats.
