The Mappa animated 24 part series Dororo is a remake of an old story about a dude flinging around swords which also has a cool op. This is all I knew about the anime before finally getting around to watching it, and after finishing it I can safely say that I was correct. The dude was very much flinging around swords and the op is cool. However, this anime also punched me in the fucking face. (a few spoilers ahead) Walking beside our sword flinging disabled thunderchad Hyakkimaru in the midst of his very own Demon Slayer episode is the actual protag, Dororo. She is an essentialcharacter to him and the plot itself as she becomes the guide to his journey, giving knowledge to a man that can barely do anything by himself (except for killing shit what a chad). A few episodes in I had instantly assumed that she was one of those "I'm too weak, I must become stronger" ass takemichi style cliche protags, but what makes Dororo unique is that she's a small child that actually acts like a small child. Although quite the fearless type (and her rock throwing skills would put her in faze clan), the most she can do in any instance of danger is know how to survive through all the pains she will come across in her life, which sets a fantastic tone of what this anime is like.

Dororo teaches you the tragedy of a land stuck in a war in a merciless fashion - although you'll get the odd episode that brightens the mood a little, the story doesn't hold back in not only killing off characters you like but keeping characters you hate alive by a slither, always leaving you and Dororo unable to do anything but helplessly watch as the world ahead of you slowly crumbles - usually this is where a certain sword flinging disabled thunderchad friend comes to save the day, but the root of the dilemmas encountered in the story (in more ways than one) are within Hyakkimaru himself, who's internal struggles of what makes him human - the body or spirit - is written fantastically within the plotline. The story of Dororo will repeatedly kick you in the balls but you keep coming back to each episode hoping for a happy ending.

Putting the CBT aside the animation is great. The scenery and less-action focused scenes are not much to complain about but Dororo really shines in its fight scenes, and really knows which specific fights amongst all the fights should have a bigger budget spent on.

Solid 8. Zoomed through the whole thing in like a week.

The white horse at the end made absolutely no fucking sense though
