Review of The King's Avatar
King's Avatar isn't like most other normal animes in that its Chinese but that doesn't necessarily mean that its a bad thing. After reading many reviews I felt complied to write a review for the first time as many people simply do not get the charm of this show. If you have even any kind of experience playing games, you will definitely love this show. It brings back many fond memories that I personally have of playing MMORPGs with my friends. Some things to note before continuing, Ye Qiu is considered to be an "old" professional at the age of 25 when the show starts. This alone shows the highly competitive and short nature of a pro esports player career, they have one of the shortest career lives, where their career can last from months to a few years at most, mostly rate at which players bodies and reaction speed start to slow down.
Additionally, Glory the game that they play is played in a first person view meaning that the player looks out of the characters eyes like counter strike instead of the top down view of games like LoL and Dota.
STORY: 8/10
Ye Qiu MVP of the first three seasons of the professional league and captain of the professional esports team Excellent Era is let go after a string of disappointing runs in the competitive league and is replaced with a up and coming young talent. With nothing left, he wanders about before finding work in an internet cafe and restarting anew.
The plot starts off slow but one thing that stands out is how reasonable and believable everything seems to be. Easily defeating someone else in PvP?? Sure, Ye Qiu is within the top 0.0001% of players in the game, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that apart from other pros nobody in the game can pose any difficulty to him.
His departure from the team coincides with a new server opening. A new server is simply that, everything is reset and everyone starts anew.
**MINOR MINOR MINOR MINOR SPOILERS**
In episode 1/2 it is shown that Ye Qiu takes out a spear from a chest, and it isn't explained well in the show but from the novels, it is mentioned that the spear is a self made weapon that can be carried over from a different server but it restarts from its most basic stats.

ART: 7/10
This seems to be a big stickler for many people. Kings Avatar uses CGI as a way to animate certain unimportant parts which many people understandably can't get used to since its quite an abrupt change from what normal viewers are used to.
This however allows for the animators to carve out some beautiful fight scenes that flow extremely well together. In most major fights, the animation is fantastic and smooth, characters are shown to like how they would be in a normal MMORPG
They are times when they do use frames repeatedly such as when they are clearing a dungeon, but then again when clearing a dungeon the most ideal way to clear it would be repeated over and over again, not to mention that as previously mentioned the animation during fights are fantastic so it gets a pass from me.
Sound: 7/10
I'm not someone to plays much attention to the sound so to me it was as what i expect from an MMORPG which is why it got a 7/10
Characters: 6/10
Unfortunately, one season is simply not enough time to fully develop every single character, there are over a thousand chapters in the novel however Ye Qiu does get some really good development as the story progresses. He goes from someone who does not care about the game at all to someone who grudgingly goes back to it and finally back to enjoying the game before it became a job for him.
Apart from Ye Qiu, the other characters get barely any mention but as previously mentioned, one season is simply not enough time to develop them.
Overall: 8/10
If you are someone who has ever played any form of MMORPGs before you would understand why this show is so attractive. It has its shortcomings but which show doesn't? The nostalgic feeling that you get when you remember gathering friends and strangers together to attempt a dungeon and the feeling when you finally cleared it makes this show an 8/10 for me
