Review of The King's Avatar
I finished this in three nights. Sure it is only 12 episodes, but for me to finish an anime that quickly I have to respect it and be thoroughly interested in it. I see a lot of critical reviews comparing this to SOA. It is not the same. The premise? Perhaps, but everything else is different. The main character is not a whiny little b****. Instead, he is a cool, calm, and passionate protagonist. He draws people in and makes the best out of an awful situation, and inspires those that cross paths with him. This story had moredepth than just a game treated, possibly, overly serious. The diversity in characters was very enjoyable. I loved bun, he was hilarious.
Bottom-line, if you have some beef with a hardworking character showing absolute dominance in what they are passionate about, look elsewhere. If you are seeking failure upon failure, as protagonist in animes to often portray (IMO; looking at you RE: Zero), then you are looking at the wrong show. I enjoy dedicated and powerful characters showing what they are made of.
If you are looking for great action, relatable characters, have played/have an interest in MMORPGS, and enjoy a strong main character, then you should give this show a watch.
