Review of Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online

The original Gun Gale Online season had actual things going on. It made you want to know more about what was going on and who was behind it all and at the end, although a little weak and anticlimactic, it delivered some satisfaction and closure. This one on the other hand is just the story of this super tall girl who's playing the game as a tiny girl and happens to be really good because of plot reasons. That's it. There's nothing else to it. At the end they try and add some sort of story with a villain but it just doesn't work because of thenext point; the characters.

The characters in this one are bland at best. Most of them feel really artificial. The plot wants you to believe that they're charismatic and awesome but they're just not, they just don't have that organic factor that makes a character likable.

The worst one by far is the so called "villain" of the show. Another one of those "ultra strong because the plot says so" aka "we pulled this character out of our arse" characters. It felt to me like they couldn't decide what they wanted this character to be. It starts as a good character and then turns out to be the bad kid in the block and by the end of the whole thing you're not even sure if the character is suppossed to be good or bad or insane or what the hell is going on anymore. The whole mini arc involving the villain is just annoying and the "finale" is lame and kind of weird.

Overall, looks good, sounds good, plot is nonexistant, characters are average at the very best.
