Review of Black Clover
Story-wise this anime may seem a bit simple and boring but it's actually really good at what it does. It takes the concept of using books with spells, aka grimoires and builds its premise around it quite well. The main character, Asta, is quite obnoxious in the beginning. He was loud and annoying but he gets better as the story goes on. He's the basic shonen protagonist so if you want someone original as the MC Asta is definitely not high on your list. Despite the rather simplistic MC the side-characters are anything but like him. Some may seem basic in terms of personality butthey are surprisingly deep. Now beware, this anime has its fair share of tsunderes (Noelle, Charlotte) and there are scenes where they are obnoxious, but when it comes down to business (fights, development) they are quite sound.
The magic abilities in this anime are simple on paper but really, really interesting once you actually see them on the screen. Normally I'd personally find magic like "World Tree Magic" boring and unoriginal, but this anime actually uses it in an interesting way, like creating brooms for example that they can use to fly. Or take Dark Magic, for example, I sure as hell didn't expect Dark Magic to allow someone to slice through dimension.
The animation at the start is okay at best but as the anime progresses it gets better and better. Don't expect Jujutsu Kaisen level of beauty but it most certainly is not a bad looking anime if I do say so myself. This being a shonen also means it has a bunch of good openings, the ones that stand out the most are Black Rover, Black Catcher and Grandeur in my opinion.
Now, the answer to the question you are asking yourself if you are reading this; "Will I enjoy this anime?" The answer varies. If you want something simpler and not too heavy on plot and characters then you will enjoy this show. But if you are someone that values characters and story above everything else your best bet would be to look somewhere else.
