Review of Black Lagoon

This anime gives Deadman Wonderland a run for its money for my "Most Juvenile Anime I Have Ever Seen" award. This anime is BLATANTLY targeted at angsty teenagers in every way and it's cringe-inducing to watch. The writing is unbearably bad. Expect constant lines along the lines of "Shit is bullshit! Let's go F some shit up!" or "Let's go start some shit" or "I'm going to show that F ing C the definition of pain". It's offensively mindless and juvenile and could only possibly appeal to unhappy teenagers. It's not just the writing either. All the characters try really really hard, and not the least bitsubtly, to be cool and badass. Again, if you're an angsty teenager, maybe they succeed. Otherwise, it's laughably bad.

There is no depth in any way. It's swearing and violence and trying to be cool and badass for the sake of it, period, and that's the whole show. How do two angry female soldiers settle their differences (other than non stop swearing, that is)? A bare-knuckle brawl of course! Because OF COURSE they do...

I did not give this show a 3 or a 4 as I have with other bad anime in the past for the simple fact that it's very action oriented and as such is not sleep-inducing levels of boring to watch the way Serial Experiments Lain or Moribito are, but make absolutely no mistake- this is a bad anime. I could not possibly recommend this to anyone and if you're a person who considers yourself remotely mature or an actual adult, avoid.
