Review of Bakemonogatari
This would have been a 10/10 anime if the creators decided not to make some.... interesting choices... This will probably be the only review I make on this website, unless there is another anime out there that I hate as equally as much as this one. To put it simply, the reason why the Monogatari series is something that I despise so much is because of the fan service. No, not just any fanservice, but the fanservice and sexualization of VERY young girls. This could have been a masterpiece; I LOVED the plot, the animation is great, and the soundtrack is wonderful. I don't understandwhy the addition of underage fanservice was necessary. Sexualization of highschoolers in anime isn't rare, but Bakemonogatari reaches a new low with the fanservice of a 5th grader and a middle schooler. These fanservice scenes weren't just present once or twice, but multiple times in every episode, including the sexualization of the protagonists' little sisters. These scenes were not essential to the plot and makes the series completely un-watchable in my opinion.
Plot wise, the main character seems fun and cool, until you get to these scenes, and he is depicted as a degenerate lowlife. Not to mention his weird harem that somehow involves a lesbian. (as well as the middle schooler mentioned above but that's beside the point.) All in all, when it comes to Monogatari, I believe that fanservice does in fact ruin an anime, especially when it is of children. I love the stylistic design and overall plot of this series, I only wish they could have used it on a different show.
And if for some reason this review makes you mad, then I'm just going to tell you that you stink and shut my computer.
