Review of Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day
A series showing the strains that a death to a friend can create, Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai follows our main character Jinta Yadomi, Who hardly attends school and is trying to fade out of the lives of his friends or the "Super Peace Busters" as they named themselves when they were young, this togetherness has been lost since the death of one or the 6 members, Meiko Honma or her nickname of "Menma" It happened when they were still young and since then all the other members have or tried to deal with the loss in their ownunique way.
Which for the most part they haven't done, and instead of staying in a group invoking the memories of Menma, they drift apart, All have scars from her death that will never heal.
Menma comes back as a "Spirit Or Ghost" to our main character Jinta, She wants him to grant her one last wish to get her to Heaven/Find Peace or the same equivalent, But talking to a Spirit who NO ONE else can see apart from Jinta. This aspect creates friction with the group with most thinking he is making it up or something along those lines.
Another aspect i LOVED was the character development, Its done superbly in this, You have all sorts of character types but something that sets this apart is the Jeckyll/Hyde type persona's, All of them are hiding another side to them, Another side that only can be unlocked with friends or in the Super Peace Busters.
Going back to Jinta, I really enjoyed how they showed his "Downfall" from Menma's death he is a different person, Now reclusive and small, Mentally and Physically. Jinta was the leader of the gang, but he is far from that now, the longer the episodes go on he starts to grow and become that same guy he used to be.
Everything else is done amazingly in this series, For some it will make you cry believe me it has a fair share of drama, But the overall package (And im not even touching on really the AMAZING voice acting, and really stunning visuals) Its something close to a Masterpiece for me.
Just a shame it has only 11 Episodes would loved of a few more, But its one series you have to watch, Incredible.
