Review of A Certain Magical Index
A quick note before the review, this show spoils some of the major events in A Certain Scientific Railgun, while Railgun spoils very little of what happens in A Certain Magical Index, if you plan on watching both, watch Railgun first. Story: 6/10 Nice concept, good setting, poor execution. The show is supposedly set in a relatively high fantsasy AND Sci-Fi setting, yet we see next to none of it. The Esper and Science part of the show ends up being this background mystery, whereas the Magic part is explained and in broad daylight, robbing it of any real mystique. Art: 8/10 I've seen better, but the showsanimation has aged well. There wasn't any moment that stuck out to me though, neither good nor bad. This show is the definition of consistent in terms of animation quality.
Sound: 6/10
The voice acting was good most of the time (can't speak for the dub as I watched the sub), but the OST was really weak. I genuinely can't remember a single track, and I'm writing this review minutes after finishing the show.
Character: 7/10
Kinda discussed this in the story section, already, nothing new to add.
Enjoyment: 6/10
A lot of cliches, OP is supposed to be a normal dude and never trains but yet has enough strength to punch someone with enough force to make them fly into a concrete pillar and leave a dent in it. Just about every time that a side character was about to do something major he jumps in and steals the spotlight. Pretty standard anime stuff, but moderation is key in all things and this show doesn't have it.
Overall: 6/10
Disappointing watch, but not bad. I guess I'd recommend it, but it's not a strong recommendation.
