Review of Monster
At first, Monster came off a bit slow, but the plot from the very beginning is so intriguing and stays that way as the story goes on. The constant tension and stakes animate the true horror of the situation Tenma is in. Speaking of Tenma he is a great character, his constant struggle and moral challenges he faces throughout the journey make him so fascinating. The Worldbuilding is amazing and truly brings Germany to life. The scenery and cinematography also add to the beauty of Germany. The side characters that are encountered through the journey are all perfectly fleshed out and interesting, and you genuinely careabout them and their story. Monster is so good at putting you into its world. Sometimes episodes will be about a random doctor or a British couple and they still find a way to captivate you and make you feel attached to these characters and their situations. The way Monster uses other characters' perspectives to tie them into the plot is brilliant. It’s the execution of presenting these characters that makes it so interesting.
The soundtrack is awesome throughout the show but I felt some tracks were beaten to death. The theme of pure nihilism vs love is amazing and is expressed through so many layers throughout the show. The conclusion of Johan's character was fitting; it showed how even Johan wasn’t immune to fate with his suicide plan failing. Tenma also had a great ending even after Johan took all those lives he still saved him. Cleansing the Monster inside of him, making Johan realize and understand love and worth.
