Review of Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day
Really great show. I really enjoyed, though not to the same extent as Your Lie in April. It's a really great story with some really solid character development and an engaging plot. It's honestly really sad seeing how each character copes with Menma's death. The animation is solid, though not as vibrant or completely eye-catching as Your Lie in April. The theme song and score is pretty great though. There are some recurring themes that I really enjoyed and the OP and Ending songs really stuck with me. The one thing that really struck me was how haunting Poppo's reveal is. He was the last oneto see Menma alive as she was dying and that honestly is the most haunting thing to look back on, constantly thinking about whether you could have saved that person.
The ending was pretty great and tied up very neatly, almost too much, but I still really liked it. I thought the ending scene where all of the characters were chanting “ready” was bordering on silly, but it didn't entirely ruin the moment.
I really love the anime teenage dramas, as much as I hate describing them that way. I can see a little bit of myself in most of these characters which is comforting and scary at the same time. This isn't the greatest show, but I found a lot of joy from watching it. I definitely recommend it to any other weebs. Really, really solid show. I actually quite loved it.
