Oshi No Ko could have been great at what it claims to be, a show about the dark side of the entertainment industry. It had all the makings do it well. Unfortunately, past the first episode, the plot feels meandering. If you want a show about deep characters interacting with a dark background setting, this isn't it. The characters don't feel as flat as generic isekai #3251, but aside from Aqua, they all feel somewhat one note. As for the entertainment industry angle, the critique is so minimal, that it feels more like condemnation of fans, considering the near complete absence of the industry itselfbeing harmful.

I'm sure that if I went into it expecting what happened, I'd like it a lot more, but when the advertising is about the actual plot and not melodrama, and when the fans try to sell it on the themes and not the melodrama, and then you watch the show, and both the plot and themes are just window dressing for melodrama, it feels tiring.

But hey, the art's good, the OST is pretty good, and I'm not the arbiter of whether or not characters are likeable, so if you can ignore the plot hooks of episode 1 like the author almost did, then I'm sure you'll have more fun watching this than I did.
