I have so many issues with this series, yet - I still enjoyed it immensely. To start - they never established why the Kaiju Eugenicists want to destroy humanity. Why would they do that in the first place? If Kaiju are born of human emotions, wouldn't Kaiju also be destroyed if that happened? Why are the main characters so comparatively chill w/ the villains who genuinely want to destroy the entire human race? How come none of them even ask why they're doing this??? I had a hard time caring about the main plot of the series to be honest, they never really established any kind ofstakes here, it didn't feel as urgent or world ending as Gridman. Because of that, I found the fight scenes to be kind of underwhelming and wished they would get back to the developing relationships of the characters instead. The entire reason I kept watching is because the characters and character designs were excellent. There were no characters in the whole serious who i mixed up with one another, which is a rarity in modern anime. The eyes on the characters alone were distinctive and detailed. The relationship between Minami and Yomogi was sweet and developed really well, and the plot with Minami's sister was really well done. It's remarkable that a series like this was able to develop its characters more in 12 episodes than a show like My Hero Academia has w/ any of its characters in 5 seasons.

If the characters weren't so likeable, I would be rating this series significantly lower. The plot makes little to no sense, and the villains themselves have no revealed motivation for doing literally anything. That said, the band of misfits roped together by Gauma (an excellent character and design) is charming and made the series worth it. While individually I would rank a lot of aspects of this series fairly low, strung together it creates a charming if ultimately disappointing series.
