Review of Demon Lord 2099
This is a fairly entertaining show but suffers in places. Good thing the main character is good enough. Otherwise, I would have given this a worse score. § Overview The demon lord, Veltol Velvet Velsvolt, was slain by the hero Gram. After hundreds of years, he woke up to a different world where no one recognised him. His magic powers are ineffective. It didn't help that one of his underlings betrayed him and attempted to kill him. How will Veltol navigate this new world? § Notes1. Cyberpunk fans will love this. It's a dystopian future but uses magic.
2. It started slow and a bit slice of life until it was necessary for Veltol to fight his enemies.
3. It's nice that the arcs are clear-cut in this anime.
4. The anime ended on a high note, and I don't think there will be a season 2.
5. Most of the animation is at par and the art direction is okay. There was just this one instance where it fumbled so hard. You'll see it when Veltol transformed into it.
6. Veltol is a pompous and vain character. In other anime, it's easy to hate a character like him. Ironically, he is a bit likable here.
I like his deep voice, but sometimes he may feel stiff.
7. There are at least two attractive girls here. There's fanservice but they're minimal compared to harem shows.
§ Conclusion
It's an okay show about a demon lord who learned to live in an apocalyptic future. It has some decent fight scenes but is not as budgeted as the usual shounen shows. It is entertaining, but I'm afraid nobody will remember this years from now.
