MegaMan NT Warrior · review
Spoiler warning
This review may discuss plot details.
Rockman Exe, or Mega Man Nt Warrior is an anime adaptation of the Mega Man Battle Network video game series, specifically 1 and 2, and this anime has a very special place in my heart. It was the first anime i've ever watched and really got me into the medium. But I recently rewatched this anime and ive gotta say, my thoughts about it have changed. Some better, some worse. So what are my overall thoughts? Pros: First off, the characters were fun. Nowhere near as good as their game counterparts but I still thought they were all handled well. Netto and Rock Man were pretty fun,and the antagonists ranged from great to they appear once and never again. And all the side characters were fun, especially Masa and Enzan.
Second, this show surprisingly had many moments that hit deep. From the negative effects of deforestation, to grief, it tackled some heavy themes occasionally and did them pretty well.
The soundtrack was also spectacular. Some songs did get old after hearing them, and its definitely not FMAB levels of music quality, but all the songs are still a pretty good bop to listen to. Also the opening never got old. I loved this thing.
The series also had a few episodes towards the end that set up Axess very well like the invention of dimensional areas and the new PETs.
Okay. Now for the cons
Cons:
Fights were a mixed bag. There were a few fights that stood out as being very good like Rock Man and Elec Man Vs Magnet Man and Rock Man Vs Shark Man, and some fights that had some pretty dang good choreography like Rock Man and Blues Vs Stone Man and Bomb Man, but overall a lot of fights were slow and repetitive.
The animation is also extremely mixed. There are times where characters look great and other times, not so much.
The pacing is also extremely rough. Some episodes just end out of nowhere and fights often feel rushed. Major spoiler incoming, but the Gospel Arc has one of the most anti-climactic endings ive seen in an anime. Rock Man just randomly gets a new form (Bug Style) and beats the Gospel virus in about 4 hits.
Overall, if you want a good turn your brain off anime, or if you're a fan of anime like Pokemon, Digiman, or Beyblade, I would definitely recommend it. Overall I really enjoyed my rewatch of Rockman.Exe. Hopefully Axess ages just as great as I remember :).
