Review of Devilman: Crybaby
Devilman Crybaby personifies an anime to have lost the plot along its way. It starts off very promising, especially with regard to character development and plot course. The manner in which events played out ensured a gradual build towards a climax that felt like it would be as badass as outrageous the concept of creating an adolescent crybaby-devil protagonist. Things get a bit fast paced towards the middle of the season after which it seems like just a rush to end the agony of having failed to capitulate on the initial spark of creativity. Another let down was the emotional display of characters which seemed moreconfused than resolute. The only plus point is the artwork which was fantastic and sort of kept the interest alive, albeit to a disappointing finale.
In conclusion, this isn't an anime worth investing time in. I haven't read the manga so I don't really know if that pans out differently - the most one can hope for is a new adaptation with the same characters.
