Review of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind
"Kono Giorno Giovanna Niwa Yume Ga Aru" -Giorno Giovanna JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken Part 5: Ougon no Kaze, the 5th part of Hirohiko Araki's hit manga series, and the highest rated part of the JoJo anime, but is golden wind really that good? After the amazingly successful part 4, how does part 5 improve? Does it improve? Well, JoJo part 5 Golden wind is absolutely brilliant. [story-8/10] Golden Wind takes us to Italy, and who's that? Well shit its ma boi Koichi from DiU, Koichi is looking for Haruno Shiobana, Koichi meets Haruno at the airport, but Haruno, no longer is called Haruno Shiobana, but instead GiornoGiovanna, here we learn of Giorno's dream, to become a "Gang Star" and stop "The Boss".
JoJo part 5 is interesting, if you thought that part 4 was unrelated to the other parts, then part 5 is a whole new beast, part 5 almost has nothing to do with the over arching story, and thats one of its best parts, its a self contained story that ultimately doesn't lead to any new threads in the extended JoJo universe, it hits every single story beat, good pacing and overall good story writing, It's a good self contained story, the whole "Giorno's the son of Dio" thing is just Araki making a tiny thread to connect it to prior and future parts. The story is reminiscent of the classic cult film from 1995 named "The Usual Suspects", The boss is basically Keyser Söze but if Keyser Söze had a Prince song that could erase time.
[Art-10/10]
Art was absolutely brilliant, such an improvement from part 4's often janky art and animation, It looked so much more polished and refined, of course, Araki himself had great art and if there's one thing JoJo part 5 is amazing at, its good character design, shifting to a more effeminate art style made for a nice change, and the character designs were great, from Giorno's eloquent pink suit, or Narancia's child like skirt. The art is outstanding.
[Sound-9/10]
The JoJo part 5 Ost is unconventional done right, the themes feel like they come from all over the place you have classical pieces like "Incursion" and more modern pieces such as "Giorno's theme"
Golden winds Ost is one of the best in the series to date.
[Character-10/10]
Golden Wind has some of the strongest character writing of any Jojo part, the characters are all used to there fullest and are both immensely enjoyable and pulls you into the world of Golden Wind, Giorno is a fantastic protagonist, and the contrast of being both Dio's and Jonathans son is intriguing, He's virtuous, Kind and confident like Jonathan but violent and unforgiving like Dio. The rest of Bruno's team is great, they act like a family and is a central theme of part 5, Mista is one of may favourite characters of all-time, and the rest of the gang have interesting dynamics and relationships which make for a strong main cast. Diavolo and Doppio are fantastic villains, not as brilliant as Kira Yoshikage but certainly fantastic villains, Doppio when calling the boss is interesting and quirky. The random villains they face from the hitman team and so on are also great, characters such as Pesci and Prosciutto, or Cioccolata and secco, the villains feel more like people than cartoonishly generic villains, they attend each others funerals, the mourn there comrades deaths, they feel compassion, they are just trying to meet the ends by what they deem necessary, fantastic characters.
[Stands-10/10]
The stands are fucking amazing, Araki in part 5, to me, achieved peek creativity with stands, there all unique and make for extremely interesting fights, Stands like Golden Experience and King Crimson have become synonymies with JoJo, stands like Sex pistols and Grateful Dead are classics among the fans, the villains when they fight in pairs are very interesting, seeing them utilise each others battle style and abilities to make good strategies are always fun, take for Example Tiziano and Squalo, one makes it so they say the opposite of what they mean, and one has a deadly fish come out of any liquid, seeing them utilise each others stand to try overcome bruno's gang was fun, and seeing them fail to do so is satisfying.
[Enjoyment-9/10]
Golden Wind is fun, exciting, interesting and was overall one of the most unique anime experiences of all time.
[Overall-9/10]
while not necessary to the over all plot of jojo, it is certainly worth a watch, especially if you want to get into the JoJo series, its a good introduction and needs the least amount of background knowledge to enjoy it.
