Review of The Rising of the Shield Hero
The rising of the shield hero was one of the most beautiful shows I've ever watched. It is one of the few shows I have given a 10/10 and I stand by that rating. I know that not everyone loved it as much as I did and I completely respect and understand that. But without further ado, lets get into the review (warning spoilers ahead so if you haven't watched it yet I don't reccomend reading the rest of this review until you've watched the show.) Story: 10/10 Here's why. This show had some of the best writing i've seen in an anime. A very strong example ofthis is Raphtalia's background, which is arguably one of the saddest in all of anime, was beautiful. The suffrage and pain she went through could only be compared to that of the holocaust. She was literally stripped away from everything she knew and loved and enslaved, tortured, and beaten. She watched her best friend die in front of her eyes for gods sake, and I haven't even gotten to the fact that she watched her parents get eaten alive by a 3 headed monster dog. I know what your going to say "Just because it was sad doesn't mean it was good" But it was not only tragic and sad but also extremely well executed in the show. It perfectly ties into the show's plot and we get some big development from Raphtalia when we see her fight the man who enslaved her and many other demi-humans.
Art: 9/10
What can I say, the show was beautiful. Every scene in this show was impressive and none of them looked boring. The art showed lots of detail and captured the emotions of the characters very well. I especially like the art when Naofumi goes full rage mode against the zombie dragon. His rage was perfectly captured in the art. And lets not forget how sick all the fight scenes looked. It doesn't get a 10 however because there are plenty of other anime, mostly movies because of the extra budget, that look better. (for example kimi no na wa) but for a 25 episode anime it's quite impressive.
Sound 9/10
Also very impressive. Raphtalia's voice actor is so good. I love Asami Seto and she fits Raphtalia's character very well. Naofumi's voice actor also very well captures his rage when fighting with his rage shield. As well as the sound effects were very impressive and crisp. The soundtrack is also really good. The first OP is a certified banger and the first ED is so beautiful. It's such a chill and relaxing tune with beautiful vocals. I always ended an episode with a smile on my face listening to the ED.
Characters 10/10
As I stated earlier, Raphtalia has incredibly good writing. She's a very loveable character and you will get attached to her immediately. Like come on just look at her. Naofumi is also a great MC. Yeah he has his flaws at the beginning of the show but he has great development throughout the show. Watching him go from the man who hated everything in this new world to being a proud "father" of 2 was really satisfying. The side characters are not easily likeable, but they aren't supposed to be. They're supposed to frustrate you and do a great job at doing that. Bitch and Trash, although I hate to say this are really good characters. They are essential to the plot of the show no matter how much you hate them. Side note, the scene where Naofumi spares Bitch and Trash was incredible writing. It really shows Naofumi's growth to be able to have mercy on the people who treated him like shit. Not only that, he saved a father and husband from death. You could tell the Queen didn't want to kill her husband and Naofumi recognized that and, in true Naofumi fashion, waltzed in and saved the day like the total badass that he is.
Enjoyment 10/10
Not much to say here but I was on the edge of my seat the whole show. Not a second of this show bored me.
Overall 10/10
Currently my favorite anime. I fell in love with this anime as soon as I finished watching It and I can't wait to watch s2 and 3. Anyways thanks for listening to my review have a nice day everyone :)
