I'm gonna try my best not to include too many spoilers. I thought that this anime had very important and meaningful messages to convey. The idea that man is not inherently evil because of the way he has developed in this world is something I believe people need to understand, and it is reflected very well in Shinichi's fight with Goto. On top of that, the anime really delves deep into what it means to be human. Various motifs, such as motherhood presented through his mom and Tomura Reiko, savagery as suggested by the killer and the police chief guy, responsibility, sacrifice, love, and grief areall weaved together to create a really fulfilling story about who we are as a species.
That aside, I thought that the anime could definitely have been polished in certain places. Murano gets very repetitive and along those lines, the overall pacing of the story feels a little odd at certain places (it almost felt like they were trying to tell multiple stories at the same time). A lot of ideas are not fully unearthed either, such as Kana's ability to sense Shinichi (and Kana as a whole), which made certain behaviors/motivations difficult to follow.
Overall, I believe that Parasyte is a great story with many worthwhile themes working through it, and that it simply falls short due to story elements that were not entirely cohesive.
