Perhaps I'm just a sucker for high quality animation and the big budget production value that animated films have over their weekly counterparts, but I somehow found myself thoroughly enjoying this way more than I did the first season of the show. Maybe it's just that I've spent enough time with these characters at this point that I was more emotionally invested in their struggles. The story is exactly the same, so if you've already seen the first season of the show there's nothing new to be had there. I still think it's worth watching anyway. For anyone completely new to the series I think thishonestly can serve as a total replacement to the TV version. Usually I recommend watching the entire thing because a movie version always has to cu stuff out to keep the runtime brief, but I think they trimmed just all the fatty unnecessary parts leaving only the meat of what makes this show work. The story is honestly all the better for it, much more streamlined in the very best way.
So combine that with the stunning new visuals and you've got a surprising 9/10 on a show that I use to think was average at best. Really great work and I hope the sequel can delivery just as good a product.
