Review of High School of the Dead
The first few episodes are great, particularly the first three or four, but from there it slowly goes downhill, both in being more blatantly and gratuitously sexual (which I usually don't mind unless it takes away from the plot) and the plot becoming more and more cookie-cutter and same-old. Most of the characters are fairly decent (Hirano, Shidou, Saeko and Hisashi for example being fairly original and entertaining to watch) though several are simply "stock characters" (Rei is a moany and absent-minded damsel-in-distress, Takashi is an everyman-turned-leader and Alice is a cheap and pointless pandering lolita). The one character I would love to have seen moreof would be Mizusu Ichijou, as it would be entertaining to see the toll that killing her best friend would take on her and how that would impact her character (though sadly she dies immediately after).
The sound is fairly good, the OP is a banger, and I don't have much qualms with voice acting, nor the animation, which rocks the mad-house style charmingly. It's a great show as long as you don't take it too seriously. Don't expect too much surprising or groundbreaking plot though, it's packed full of typical TWD-esque tropes.
PS - Also, loving the Shaun Riley cameo, addressing one of England's national treasures, Simon Pegg.
