Review of Haibane Renmei

Honestly, this is a must watch and despite being a bit slice-of-life, it has awesome world-building and a mysterious quality to it. Very though provoking, and it moved me to tears. Although the tone is obviously religious, it is done so in a truly non-pushy way and as a "what if?" type of scenario. Even as an atheist, I find it incredibly moving and endearing. Despite its age and the unfortunate lack of any follow-up story (or any other notable works from its creator beyond Lain and NeiA_7), I find myself coming back to this every couple of years. It might just have my favorite interpretationof God and the afterlife, even if I do not subscribe to religion. Something about it just seems so... fair. Morally right.
